a grand illusion of happiness given
The nations fall into the pit they dig; in the snare they hide, their own foot is caught. To Shoel the wicked will depart, all the nations that forget God (Psalm 9:16/18).
As I write this piece, make no mistake, what might appear to some the antithesis, I’m not a political person. I despise politics. The endless non-sensical prevarications of those who want to serve politically, while they pervert the term “public servant.” And those being “served,” bolstering the incessant theft without a kernel of knowledgeable truth, while the Constitution, not even a byword. Yet, when politics enter a conversation, I always ask: What’s the Constitution say? Amazingly, most have absolutely no idea, or they don’t care. The idea of a party being aligned with their wants more important than the Constitution designed for all. They are completely ignorant, yet pontificate loudly enough that any other individual listening might believe they speak with authority. Thus, the vicious cycle of national destruction continues unabated.
And it truly chews on my craw that the country is in the shape it’s in, but the truth of the issue: How can it not be in such disarray? The destructive design being the result of the government achieving a goal, thus an easy answer being one’s lack of constitutional knowledge, allowing the desired change to manifest on the political stage. Sell a lie, gain a vote, knowing: Ignorance is bliss. So, by force, I must be political by nature in the hope of changing mindsets to possibly help bring the country back to its original intent of design; constitutional. And make no mistake, I’m not a constitutional scholar. Yet even I can see something is horribly amiss.
In that vein, the campaign season is now fully entrenched: two candidates. But first, another mistake to not make. I believe both parties are corrupt, along with all three branches of government. So, having no party affiliation, strictly a love of country, I see where one candidate was chosen by the people of their party: while the other, by the power brokers of its party. Their old incumbent, having bowed out to save democracy; after just claiming he was running to save democracy. A forced resignation being more a reflection of the failed debate and the party power brokers deciding the incumbent was a no-win proposition. And WE THE PEOPLE of the Democrat party, blindly accepting the new candidate. Because, during the 2020 primaries, wasn’t the now confirmed nominee the first to drop out due to dismal poll numbers, including an abysmal lack in fundraising? But who cares about poll numbers, right, wrong, or what the Constitution even says. This is about party, power, and what the government can give. Isn’t happiness the result of the right power brokers gaining the power to control? And once the control is placed in the hands of a few, then happiness will be the result for many.
Except, when the Constitution was presented to be the new foundation over the old fracturing one, the nation’s Framers, in their quest to solidify the nation into a monolithic pour proclaimed: A Constitution is, in fact, and must be regarded by the judges, as a fundamental law (Federalist 78). Three separate branches of government, each defined with certain powers, but the power of absolute control placed in the hands of WE THE PEOPLE: Nor does this conclusion by any means suppose a superiority of the judicial to the legislative power. It only supposes that the power of the people is superior to both; and that where the will of the legislature, declared in its statutes, stands in opposition to that of the people, declared in the Constitution, the judges ought to be governed by the latter rather than the former. They ought to regulate their decisions by the fundamental laws, rather than by those which are not fundamental (Federalist 78).
Only, the key word defined: Fundamental. (adjective): Pertaining to the foundation or basis; serving for the foundation. Hence, essential; important; as a fundamental truth or principle; a fundamental law; a fundamental sound or chord in music. (noun): A leading or primary principle, rule, law, or article, which serves as the ground work of a system; essential part; as the fundamentals of the Christian faith (Webster’s 1828). So, in clear and concise wording, every law written, or power afforded the government must be found in the Constitution. If not, then the government has no power to control or legislate (Federalist 45).
But … in the game of legislation, or the people’s desire being upheld, the Constitution itself has no morality compass, which begs: What controls the legislature or the will of the people? What decides when too far is too much, that in a biblical verse: “Everything is permissible”-but not everything is beneficial. “Everything is permissible”-but not everything is constructive (1 Corinthians 10:23). Only, if one understands the verse, everything is not permissible, beneficial, or constructive. And government cannot provide what it has no power to give: We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness. – That to secure these rights, Governments are instituted among Men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed (Declaration of Independence). A truly simple, uncomplicated foundation of a fundamental truth: The government was designed to protect the people, not control them. But some control is allowed to protect the overall from the few, including the protection of the few from the overall, based on the premise of a constitutional republic and the powers vested in the Constitution. Because once the government has gained absolute control (autarchy), the power will shift from WE THE PEOPLE, to the government. And once done, happiness will no longer be self-pursuable as government will become the arbiter thereof, able to take any God given right away. A return of what thousands died for to end.
Now, as the campaign season heats up and all manner of promises are made, learn the Constitution. As well, understand that as the nation creeps closer to the precipice of immorality, if issues are not corralled, and sensibility of thought returned to the conversation, Shoel will be the result. And, if one needs a definition, I present the best description of Shoel where the nation is headed: Before I go whence I shall not return, to the land of darkness and of gloom, the dark, disordered land where darkness is the only light (Job 10:21-22). So, to close, in politics, by design of manipulation, ignorance is bliss until it isn’t. Because once the government can completely and freely give, it can also completely and freely take away.
