As I go about my daily routine, I’m perplexed, no, flummoxed, by the yard signs I see abounding all over the place: “Harris/Walz” or “Trump/Vance.” Located in yards next door to each other, neighbors juxtaposing their political positions, the antithesis of the other. And, in light thereof, because as much as I’m not a political person, while I care about our country, I would never place either of these candidates’ yard signs on my property. My goal has been to preserve the foundation of our nation for posterity: our children, grandchildren, and those yet to come. So, believe this, neither party has any desire to preserve the nation’s foundation.
Their desire, divide the masses into two distinct sides – party centric … for a purpose. The nation’s Framers even used the term: Divide et impera! (divide and command – Federalist 7), although in a different frame of reference. Plus, the division being drilled into the psyche of potential voters by the candidates makes me ponder whether neighbors can even talk to each other anymore because of the division instilled by those seeking office. But all of this is a repeat ad nauseum of verbiage I’ve been typing for years. It also reminds me of a Bible verse: There is no remembrance of men of old, and even those who are yet to come will not be remembered by those who follow (Ecclesiastes 1:11). What, I believe, is the most extant or profound window into the nature of man ever written or spoken, being a vicious political cycle to upend societal standards.
The verse, so simple, yet so succinct. Especially in reference of WE The PEOPLE. Evident by the plethora of those yard signs, denoting Party power over constitutional truths. And history is replete with evidence supporting the verse, while the nation is being placed into a forced upheaval from which it may never recover. And all over politics and the desire to gain one’s vote. The moral decay of right/wrong, truth/lies, and the belief that humans are the top tier of intelligence in the animal kingdom. Animal becoming a word more inclined to the nature of man today: A human being considered chiefly as physical or nonrational (Merriam-Webster’s Collegiate). Ever wonder why during debates, speeches, or the pontifications to denounce the opposing party, no one ever hears about the Constitution. But what is actually in the purview of the pontificators and their promises being made to lure a potential win this coming November? And once the win happens, what’s next, including how do the three branches juxtapose?
Take “Executive Orders.” They go all the way back to George Washington. Although, the problem is, there is no power granted in the Constitution giving the executive the power to act as a king, or some facsimile thereof: To make law single-handedly. None. To prove the point, read Article II of the Constitution. And if it’s still not clear, read Federalist 70. The desire to understand this one prevailing issue is tantamount to the nation’s survival based on the promises being made in all the political pontifications espoused of late. And if one thinks the Framers wanted this (executive order), just go back to their history of being ruled by a repressive king. And to say that while George Washington issued them if they were in his ability, review “Marbury v. Madison.” That case bespeaking, if one can take off the party blinders, they’ll see the desire to undo or subvert the Constitution from the day it was ratified. Power being the elixir of control!
So, if one asks: Where does the power to make law reside? It’s simply in one branch: Congress. Consisting of two chambers, one for the States and the other for the People: All legislative Powers herein granted shall be vested in a Congress of the United States, which shall consist of a Senate and House of Representatives (Article I/Section 1). And dividing the two chambers even further, if any money (taxation) is required in any proposed law, that specific law must emanate in the House of Representatives: the people’s chamber. The Executive, the Senate, nor any Department thereof created by Congress has any ability to write law or procure money. The Framers even wrote in term limits. If a bad one is elected, vote them out. Ever wonder why the House of Representatives is only for two years? Their power and control of the purse.
And when it comes to law, the Supreme Court has no ability either to make or create something into law. That body can only rule whether something is, or is not, constitutional. If not, their power is nil to enforce, requiring the Executive, who should be executing that office on the tenets of the Constitution to get Congress to follow suit and clearly define the tenets of the Constitution. Think father figure. Example: Take Roe V. Wade. The court’s outcomes both initially and recently were only decisions from a supposed constitutional perspective. The recent taking abortion back to the States where it belongs. Which made the first decision wrong and the second one right. The premise of: The government cannot legislate what it cannot control. And if one claims it was “settled law,” it was never law in the first place. Only Congress has that power, but it doesn’t have any power in this act. Except, Congress can create law determining when potential life becomes a person: Provide for the general Welfare (Article I/Section 8/1st Clause), with Welfare defined: Exemption from misfortune, sickness, calamity or evil; the enjoyment of health and the common blessings of life; prosperity; happiness; applied to persons (Webster’s 1828).
Now, go back to the Declaration of Independence: We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness. – That to secure these rights, Governments are instituted among Men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed … Only, government does not have the power to make everyone equal. A complete impossibility because those in power will neither raise another up to their stature, nor lower themselves to equalize the stature of their position with others, making the term “public servant,” an oxymoron.
Now, a funny thing about the Constitution. It’s supposed to hold back the power of the three branches, giving the true power to WE THE PEOPLE through a representative government. Just go back to the Declaration of Independence above. Also, ponder deeper about the Clause: Provide for the general Welfare (Article I/Section 8/1st Clause), with far reaching implications, especially if one considers healthcare. Something the Framers never considered. Yet, one of the hot topic debate items and the promise of improving Obamacare. Except, Obamacare is a blatant lie, (just like the Inflation Reduction Act), intended to lull individuals into believing something that isn’t. Except, Congress does have the power to take care of its constituents as much as they take care of themselves. General defined: Properly, relating to a whole genus or kind; and hence, relating to a whole class or order (WE THE PEOPLE). Thus we speak of a general law of the animal or vegetable economy. This word, though from genus, kind, is used to express whatever is common to an order, class kind, sort, or species, or to any company or association of individuals (Webster’s 1828).
Finally, consider immigration, marriage, paying off student debt (both executive and Department of Education), the freewill offering of downpayments for first time home buyers, taxpayer funded rebates, and a plethora of other topics. Then, throw in the EPA and its mandate for mandated EV use by 2035 or so, Now, ask yourself: Does the government have the power to control any of them, or force their acceptance through executive fiat. One will never know unless they read the Constitution. But understand this: Our government was meant to be fed, not feed. And those governing were meant to be governed by WE THE PEOPLE. So, before you cast your vote, be careful of who and what you vote for. Because once you surrender your power, the powerful will control you.
Things are so simple if you follow the Constitution and not seek power.
