When I woke up this morning at zero-dark-it’s-too-damn-early-to-be-awake because my head was racing, I tried to nod back off to sleep. Sadly, the buzzing vacuum chamber between my ears kept me from dozing off, so the computer’s keyboard became my sheep. But the bell clanging in my head: The country is less than two weeks out from a consequential election. And the main thing at stake; the nation’s future. And no matter how this vote ends, if not this round, I believe within the next couple of presidential election cycles, the nation will be a shell of what the original intent was, if there is even anything left. Although today, throw in the hollowness of vacuum pontifications being vitriolically espoused daily, and it’s not difficult to fathom just how divided citizens have become. Like Patriot versus Loyalist; Federalist versus Anti-Federalist; North versus South; Democrat versus Republican; Good versus Evil: In the purpose driven political machinations of party power, be it through intent, design, or any other facsimile of a synonym matching the definition thereof, America is toast if WE THE PEOPLE do not wake up. What’s the phrase: Divided we stand; United we’ll fall.
So, laugh, scoff, angrily pontificate, or point fingers, while blaming the other side, as each side destroys the national fabric … on purpose. Except, if there is one thing I truly believe: It doesn’t have to be this way. The country may not be perfect, having risen from the ashes of war to “form a more perfect Union” by replacing the Articles of Confederation with the Constitution, but seriously. Because the words written to lay down the nation’s direction are apparently considered worthless by the very ones who should be fighting to preserve them: WE THE PEOPLE. Just look around at the current national state, and if you can’t see what I’m seeing, believing it’s the other political party, then look in a mirror. You’ll be staring directly at the problem. Yet, the truly astounding part of this election, of the two candidates vying for the office of president, out of 330 million plus people, these are the two best this nation can muster. Seriously?
And while the Constitution may be flawed in some respects, once it was ratified, America became the nation where millions of people from other countries immigrated, or even today, desire to come to, all in the hope of becoming an American. The last bastion of freedom in the world. But conversely, those of us born under the flag have instead chosen apathy, indolence, and ignorance, while the freedoms millions are flocking to obtain, we freely surrendered, believing government control of our lives the best course of action. The antithesis of constitutional intent: Life, Liberty, and the pursuit of Happiness through self-determination. And I get it; we allowed ourselves to be bamboozled. Example: We live in Texas, having to suffer through Cruz and Cornyn (senators), with our representative being Cuellar. Three “public servants” more intent on serving themselves opposed to the constituents who elected them to office. But what perplexes me the most: Does anyone, anymore, anywhere in this nation of what is a melting pot of human amalgamation understand the Constitution? Or does anyone even care? Or better: Do we go to our children, grandchildren, or potential future posterity, and say: Sucks to be you! So, remember, if you haven’t yet cast your ballot in this year’s election, think about the outcome for those who are yet to follow. And are the promises being bantered about even constitutional? Understand, the one you vote for could possibly be the last one anyone votes for. The stakes are that high, the outcome that serious. But seriously: Of those supposedly known as WE THE PEOPLE, who really cares?
Now you have pointed out the problem how do we fix it. There are only two running. As you say both are bad. Do we do as Latin America and not vote at all? Or do we pick the best of the two? With one we get only 4 years the other 8. Where do we go now?
