Power: possession of control, authority, or influence over others. (Merriam Webster’s)
Growing up, the best part of going to school was at day’s end when the bell rang: I vamoosed. But even better: the breaks during every school year, especially Christmas. And even though I eagerly anticipated Christmas morning, the opportunity to watch the holiday specials still holds dear to my heart: Rudolph, Charlie Brown and others. Although, when I reflect backwards, while thinking of current events, one in particular comes to mind, albeit more political in nature: “Santa Claus is coming to town.” And if I recall correctly, it was about the Burger Meister, Meister Burger. He held power over his subjects and controlled their joy or lack thereof. Except Santa kept foisting the Meister’s will to keep others as miserable as himself, which pushed the Burger further, until. And yes, “until” will come upon us all as everyone has a life timestamp. No one is exempt. Which makes me ponder why some have the absolute desire to hold absolute power over others. And while I contemplate the absurdity of the control desire elixir, one-word, Autocrasy, presents: Independent power; supreme, uncontrolled, unlimited authority or right of governing, in a single person (Webster’s 1828).
So, using Christmas, “Santa Claus is coming to town” and Oz as the basis of perspective, the nation’s Framers, after years of repressive rule, declared independence, then fought to free themselves from one king’s repressive rule. The result being the Constitution: WE THE PEOPLE. The unspoken of fourth branch of the government. The one supposedly wielding the power. With the other three being Executive, Legislative, and Judicial. Each dependent on the will and knowledge of WE THE PEOPLE. Although, a conundrum presents when the most powerful one either willfully, vacuously, or indolently abandons the clearly defined powers allotted to each based on the powers defined in the Constitution. But overall, everything rests on WE THE PEOPLE. At least it should, reasoning the Framers desire in the structure: keep from having history repeat or tyranny present. Except, in all things: Knowledge is power. Yet, knowledge requires an understanding of one’s foundation, the basis of operation: The Constitution. But in the desire for power, the heart of man and his will to control others to his benefit, like the Burger Meister, Meister Burger of Christmas past denotes: The naïve believe everything, but the shrewd watch their steps (Proverbs 14:15). Which makes the phrase: “Buyer Beware,” apropos for every political promise being made today.
And make no mistake, one must understand, in politics, power is the elixir. Like Oz and his curtain, where his unveiling showed the truth: Oz wasn’t who he presented once exposed. Thus, likening Oz to today, one should view the promises being made by those seeking office and weigh the validity of words against their actions of the past. Plus, in all things, one must understand the premise of the Constitution. Otherwise, power becomes easy to obtain. Example: the Executive branch was meant to be the leader. Defined: one that leads or conducts; a guide; a conductor. A chief; a commander; a captain. One who goes first (Webster’s 1828). Then add Leadership: guidance; direction: the leadership of the new president (American Heritage Dictionary). So, ponder: Are the many promises to give leading, deceiving, or simply vote buying? And once the promise is given and those receiving surrender power: How easy will it become for the powerful to take everything away? I guess it’s all in the eyes of the beholder, the difference being: One is either naïve or shrewd.
Well … throughout history, those holding power have risen and fallen, including the nations they controlled. Think Rome, Nero, a fiddle and, “burning down the house.” But America, the nation, was designed to be different. The people were supposed to be the power brokers. Only today, like history, history is repeating. And while the battle for one’s vote heats up with promises to give, one must understand: The Executive was never meant to be Santa Claus, while Christmas only comes once a year, and Oz was proven fake. So, while the national debt continues to grow out of control and the brouhaha of promises for votes only deepens it, the deciding vote should be knowledge, understanding: Those who plead the case first seem to be in the right; then the opponent comes and cross-examines them (Proverbs 18:17). But if no one examines the promises being offered: In his prime, man does not understand. He is like the beasts-they perish (Psalm 49:21). So, don’t elect another Burger Meister or let history repeat! And even though I should have paid attention in school, it appears I learned a lot believing in Santa Claus, only to discover he wasn’t real when I turned sixteen. My heart broke when I learned he took from to give to, just like government. So, my parents, to prop up tradition, falsified truth, the same as I did for my son, but the government won’t? Plus, are we in America or the land of Oz? Or, possibly Kansas, but the last I checked I lived in Texas. Oh, who cares: We live in the land of D.C., the true North Pole! Because it all belongs to the ruling class, right? They’ll decide what’s right, right? Except, who was the ruling class designed to be: WE THE PEOPLE!
We can't even believe our own parents since they brought St Nick into our young lives. The same as our today's government. WE The People got lazy and weren't watching our backs. To easy to let someone else do it. We forgot the power corrupts
Thanks for hitting the nail on the head again. We do need to wake up
